Introduction by Gaëtane Verna, Director general and Chief Curator, Musée d’art de Joliette (2006-2012)
As part of its winter programme, the Musée d’art de Joliette (MAJ), in collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, invites you to a lecture by Toronto artist Ed Pien. This talk will focus on the artist’s work and approach and his relationship with the MAJ, which has supported and promoted the artist’s work since 2008, presenting his first solo show in Canada, Ed Pien: Haven of Delight. This show has toured across Canada and been the subject of a publication. In 2011, the MAJ was awarded the Prize of the York Wilson Endowment to acquire a series of drawings by Ed Pien entitled Drawing on Hell, which will be exhibited there starting in January 2012.

Learn more about how a work is acquired and how an artist gains museum recognition. Toronto artist Ed Pien and Gaëtane Verna, MAJ’s executive director and chief curator (2006-2012), will talk about the dynamics of the relationship between the artist and the museum. The talk also offers the opportunity to take a long look at the phantasmagorical work of this well-known artist. Presented by the Musée d’art de Joliette in collaboration with the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM), the discussion will take place at the MBAM (Auditorium Maxwell-Cummings, 1379, Sherbrooke St. West, Montréal) and will be conducted in English.
